2022 BMW iX - The striking SUV arrives at dealerships | Mini Auto

Building on the Vision iNext concept BMW introduced in the fall of 2018, the 2022 iX will be the brand's first all-electric compact SUV — and it's shaping up to be incredibly compelling. . BMW says the iX should go on sale in early 2022 and offer an electric driving range of at about 300 miles per charge. Two electric motors provide all-wheel drive and carbon fiber-reinforced plastic body panels help save weight. The iX's cabin appears to be quite spacious with plenty of modern tech features on display, including a slickly curved digital dashboard display. When the iX reaches US dealerships, it will have to compete with the likes of the Audi e-tron, Mercedes-Benz EQC, Tesla Model X. and the upcoming Rivian R1S.

What's new for 2022?

BMW hasn't announced pricing for the more expensive M60, and we don't have details on all of the SUV's standard and optional equipment. As we learn more about how the iX will be equipped, we can recommend which one to buy and how to equip.

.What's new for 2022?

.Engine, transmission and performance

Two different variants of the iX will be offered, the first being the xDrive50, which will be powered by a pair of electric motors that combine to produce 516 hp; Four-wheel drive is standard. BMW says that's enough power for the iX to hit 60 mph in 4.6 seconds and hit a top speed of 124 mph. A performance variant called the M60 will go on sale after the xDrive50 model and will deliver over 600 hp. The IX will be equipped with an optional adjustable air suspension and rear-wheel steering. .Range, charge and battery life

The iX sports a large 106.3-kWh battery pack that BMW says will offer around 300 miles of driving range per charge. DC fast charging will be standard, and the iX can recharge from 10 percent to 80 percent in just 35 minutes when connected to a 200 kW connection. BMW has partnered with EVgo to provide a network of public charging stations for iX drivers, but the SUV will be able to charge on other popular networks, as well as through Level 2 home charging stations.

.Real-world fuel economy and MPG

The EPA has not yet released fuel economy estimates for the iX, nor has it confirmed the 300-mile driving range BMW has claimed. .Furniture, Amenities and Merchandise

The Bimmer SUV is said to be about the same size as the company's X5 and X6 mid-size crossovers, and its passenger and cargo space is expected to be similar to these models. The iX's interior design is both simple and modern with a host of high-tech elements including a large curved touchscreen dashboard and a hexagonal steering wheel. BMW will offer an optional large panoramic sunroof with electrochromic sunshade – a trick feature only available on select vehicles. The power-adjustable front seats are also heated and feature built-in speakers for the iX's stereo system. Both faux and genuine leather upholstery are offered, but BMW will also offer a woven seat fabric option – called Loft – using microfiber fabric.

.Infotainment and connectivity

BMW will use the iX SUV and i4 sedan as the launchpad for its next-generation infotainment interface, which it calls iDrive 8. The software allows customizing menus and graphics, as well as a voice-activated assistant. A large 14.9-inch infotainment screen combines with a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster to create iX's technologically advanced dashboard design. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto will be standard worldwide, and BMW will provide a Wi-Fi hotspot with 5G cellular connectivity. An 18-speaker Harman/Kardon stereo system is standard, and BMW will also offer a 30-speaker Bowers & Wilkins setup option.

.Safety and driver assistance features

BMW hasn't revealed details about what kind of driver-assistance features the iX will offer or whether they'll be standard or optional, but a host of exterior cameras and the promise of a powerful on-board computer give There will be an advanced automatic or semi-automatic with self-driving capabilities.
