2022 Nissan GT-R NISMO Special Edition looks powerful in stealth gray | Mini Auto

The 600hp race-focused NISMO features an exposed carbon hood, red accents on the 20-inch wheels and a glossy finish for this special edition model.

With up to 600 horsepower under the hood, the Nissan GT-R 2022 is a powerful and capable sports car, nicknamed Godzilla. Unfortunately, its formula hasn't changed much since it was introduced in 2009 but the sports cars it competes with have. Inside is where the GT-R's age becomes more apparent, with outdated design and cheap materials shared with lesser Nissan models. The GT-R has some things going for it. First, four-wheel drive is standard on all models, helping to handle and give the car a confident, solid feel. Plus, it's rarer than a Porsche 911, so you'll stand out in traffic or on your next race day.

Nissan is releasing a special edition GT-R based on the 600hp NISMO version for 2022. The car will only be sold in limited numbers, though Nissan has yet to say how many will come to North America. . Special Edition models will be identified by unique 20-inch black wheels with red accents, a carbon fiber hood and a special Stealth Gray exterior paint.

Somehow, Nissan charges six figures for a lower-priced car when it debuted a decade ago — and hasn't changed much since. However, those looking for long sitting times in the most powerful car bearing the GT-R badge don't worry about the price. Although the final version is NISMO, it costs more than the McLaren 570 and Porsche 911 Turbo S. Therefore, we recommend the cheapest GT-R Premium.

Engine, transmission and performance

The 2022 GT-R's standard 3.8-liter twin-turbo V-6 produces a powerful 565 horsepower. It's paired with a six-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive to put all that power down on the road. At our test track, the GT-R catapulted itself from 0 to 60 mph in just 2.9 seconds. The GT-R's quick steering, stiff construction and adjustable suspension can make even amateurs feel heroic from behind the wheel. Want more? Take a look at the Track Edition and NISMO versions with engines that have been tweaked to make 600 hp. Driving is firm but not punitive, and thanks to active sound cancellation, the GT-R's engine hum doesn't punish your ear drums on the highway.

The EPA estimates that each GT-R will earn 16 mpg in the city and 22 mpg on the highway. We don't know its real-world mpg, though, because we haven't tested the mpg on our 200-mile highway fuel economy route. For more information on the GT-R's fuel economy, visit the EPA's website.

Furniture, Amenities and Merchandise

Inside, the front seats of the GT-R are very spacious, but the rear seats are where only children feel comfortable. The interior is nicely furnished and offers a host of standard features, but those looking for a premium interior like the Audi R8 or Mercedes-AMG GT will be disappointed. Each model comes with dual-zone climate control, leather and suede upholstery, heated front seats, and more. Storage in the interior is scarce, with nothing more than large door compartments and a small bin in the center console.

Infotainment and connectivity

Each GT-R 2022 is equipped with an 8.0-inch touchscreen that can also be controlled using a rotary knob on the center console. While Apple CarPlay capability, integrated navigation, and a Bose audio system are standard, Android Auto is not an option. Its infotainment system is easy enough to use even if its graphics and menus aren't the most appealing.

Safety and driver assistance features

You won't find any Nissan driver-assist features here, but to be fair, those kinds of electronics aren't common in most of the GT-R's rivals either.
