All-New SAIC Baojun Valli Compact Wagon Officially Revealed | Cars in China

Starting price: $16,740

As GM Authority predicted earlier this month, SAIC-GM-Wuling (SGMW) has just revealed the official details of the all-new Baojun Valli, the Chinese brand's latest compact car. The new Valli is actually similar to the Baojun RC-5W launched in July 2020, but under a different name after the RC-5W was abruptly discontinued due to marketing issues.

The new 2021 Baojun Valli is the Chinese brand's first next-generation car that doesn't use alphanumeric names, going against the strategy Baojun established a few years ago for a more advanced car line. While clearly still closely related to the RC-5 liftback, the compact wagon is now officially known as the Valli, without the base model prefix.

Aesthetically, the Baojun Valli maintains the same design and body format as the defunct RC-5W introduced mid last year. The “Interstellar Geometry” design language gives the car a rather unique appearance, characterized by a prominent front fascia with large LED daytime running lights mounted on a chrome horizontal stripe, wide grille and large grille. headlights integrated into the bumper.

Unlike the flashy looks that SGMW revealed in the first official images, the Baojun Valli is more restrained, lacking the massive alloy wheels and highly expressive paint job. However, Valli will be offered with more customization options, with design upgrades and roof racks to better promote the active family spirit.

Although the joint venture has yet to announce a final powertrain offering, the 2021 Baojun Valli is expected to continue with the same two engines as on the RC-5W. The basic naturally aspirated 1.5L engine produces 98 hp, while the 145 hp turbocharged 1.5L engine should be fitted to high-end versions. Both will be paired with a six-speed manual or automatic transmission.

The new 2021 Baojun Valli will launch in the Chinese market in the second quarter of this year, as an alternative to the high proliferation of crossover models, aiming to conquer a new generation of customers looking for a practical vehicle. and difference. SGMW has announced that it will introduce several special editions focusing on the adventure of the new Valli in its commercial cycle to increase its appeal in China - their target market.
