2022 Kia Sportage - Kia's compact Sportage is sure to make you look twice | MiniAuto

Starting price: About $33,259

This is the new Kia Sportage - the latest in Kia's family of practical, family-focused SUVs to go on sale in the UK before 2022. Read on for more details.

It was about a month ago when Kia launched the fifth-generation Sportage with a complete makeover and now the compact crossover is back to reveal its specs. Remember that we are dealing with the global version / KDM with a longer wheelbase as Europe will have a model with a shorter wheelbase. You can easily tell this is an LWB by looking at the size of the back door.

New Kia Sportage broke the shell. This all-new replacement for the Volkswagen Tiguan, Hyundai Tucson and Nissan Qashqai will feature an all-new design, modern interior and a wide range of engines - including hybrids - when it goes on sale before 2022

New Kia Sportage design
The old Sportage got a tiger-nose-inspired grille – well, according to Kia at least… The new car sounds less like a wild animal, but it's still very sporty for a family SUV. The first thing you'll notice is probably the sharp daytime running lights, followed by the heavily creased and angular doors on the side of the car with flashing chrome trim.

Seen from the side, the rear pillars of the Kia Sportage have been painted black and come with bright silver trim to make it look like the roof 'floats' above the rest of the body. This probably won't fool too many people, but it should help the car look a bit less bulky when viewed from the rear.

Speaking of which, the new Kia Sportage has the same full-width brake lights as on the old car, but it adds a few more trims on each edge inspired by the Kia EV6 electric car.

Speaking of dimensions, the elongated Sportage 2022 measures 4660 mm (183.5 inches) long, 1865 mm (73.4 in) wide and 1660 mm (65.3 in) tall, with a wheelbase of 2755 mm ( 108.4 in). According to Kia, these proportions along with the improved packaging brought by the new platform give the compact crossover class-leading headroom, legroom and cargo capacity (637 liters).

New Kia Sportage interior
The new Kia Sportage gets a much more modern-looking interior than the outgoing car. Instead of that car's relatively small touchscreen, you'll get a large center screen that links to the new digital driver display - like the dual-screen setup you find in many cars. Mercedes.

You get very few physical buttons in the interior of the new Sportage - as is common these days - so it can be a bit difficult to operate some of the system's more detailed menus while you're driving.

Kia will offer the Sportage X-Line with a number of exclusive interior trim options, including green or black tufted seat trim and what Kia calls 'black metal wood' - perhaps that's the page luxury wood effect metal decoration...

The front seats have built-in coat and bag hangers - helping to keep your luggage in place - and Kia has included several handy storage compartments in the new Sportage's cabin. It doesn't say how much boot space the new car has, though it's likely to improve on the old car's 503-litre load compartment.

New Kia Sportage engine and driver
Kia has been tight-lipped about the new Sportage's engine, but you can bet it'll come with a choice that's almost identical to the latest Hyundai Tucson (the two brands share many parts across most of their vehicles).

You'll be able to choose from a 115-hp diesel, a 150-hp petrol and three mild hybrids ranging from 136 hp to 180 hp.

It is possible that the new car will be offered with the same 265-horsepower plug-in hybrid system as the new Hyundai Tucson, which should be fast enough for most people.

There will most likely be front- and all-wheel drive, and there will be a choice of manual or automatic transmissions – although it's likely that Kia will feature all of its cars as standard. UK. You'll know for sure in September when more UK-specific details become available.

New Kia Sportage price and release date
Kia will confirm specs for UK Sportage models in September 2021, and it's expected to go on sale before 2022.

The current Kia Sportage range starts at just under £24,000, while top-spec models will set you back more than £30,000. Expect the new car to be priced from around £28,000.
