MG Motor's next big ticket launch in India is expected to be an IC engine version of the expected ZS EV called Astor

MG Motor has partially announced the upcoming crossover SUV model called MG One ahead of its global launch in China. The car's world premiere will take place on July 30, but ahead of the launch, the company has released a few teaser images of the SUV. The images partially reveal its exterior styling showcasing the brand's latest design and technological prowess.

The upcoming SUV is based on the brand's new SIGMA architecture, an all-in-one modular platform. At the heart of this platform, MG has combined a crossover with powerful chip technology. Other leading attributes of the platform include cutting-edge electrical architecture, an active digital ecosystem, and hard-core software technology.

★ 2022 MG One - Exterior design

Through the images that partially reveal the SUV model launched by the company, it can be inferred that the MG One follows a strong and sporty design philosophy. It is clear that the One has a European influence on its exterior styling, which corresponds to the British marque's heritage. The crossover has a high-class sports style with a reclining sitting position.

The Coupe-like sloping roofline along with the highly resilient shoulder line are likened to a signature leopard leap that fits the car's overall proportions well. The crossover's wide and lower proportions ensure a practical and spacious interior while giving the overall vehicle a modern and sporty look. The prototype shown in the images is painted two-tone with orange and black.

Looking ahead, the SUV has a wide black grille, which is uniquely shaped and very different from current MG models. On either side of the grille are angular headlights with LED lights inserted on both sides. At the rear, the MG One has a pair of wraparound LED taillights and a high-mounted stop light. The two-tone rear bumper also has fake air vents on both sides.

Other distinctive accents include folding lines on the bonnet and side panels, black painted pillars and ORVMs, aggressive bumpers at both ends, contrasting roof rails and wing-shaped five-spoke alloy wheels. flower. According to previous reports, in terms of dimensions, the MG One measures 4,579mm long, 1,866mm wide and 1,609mm high. It is said to have a wheelbase of 2,670mm.

★ Engine & Transmission Options

The MG One is expected to be powered by the same 1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine offered in the Hector. In this case, it is capable of producing about 180 hp of peak torque of 250-260 Nm. Transmission duties can be handled by either a 6-speed manual transmission or a 7-speed DCT automatic transmission. Since it is based on an advanced electric architecture, an all-electric or hybrid powertrain based on the same concept could also be introduced at a later stage.

★ MG Astor India launched

The British-owned Chinese automaker is currently working on the ZS petrol-powered MG Astor, which is expected to launch in India later this year. Testing of the upcoming crossover has been actively underway for more than a year, and prototypes have been spotted several times. At launch, it will be on par with the likes of Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos and Skoda Kushaq.

The world premiere of MG One is scheduled to take place on July 30, and it will premiere in India some time after that. At launch, the MG One will usurp the recently launched Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos and Skoda Kushaq.

The launch of the MG One in India will be quite interesting, as we still don't know what MG will offer this time. We expect MG to launch the One with many features that were previously available only to high-end German cars.
