2022 Range Rover Evoque L - Debuts In China with two-row seats | Car in China

Starting price:  $57,880 USD

China's attachment to long-wheelbase cars has come a long way back. It is similar to the Western obsession with SUVs, which brings us to the Evoque L which is 160 mm (6.3 inches) longer than the Euro standard Evoque.

China is known to have long wheelbase versions of some models. Joining the fray is the new Land Rover Range Rover Evoque, a long-wheelbase version known as the Range Rover Evoque L.

At 4,531 mm (178 inches) long, the Evoque L is significantly longer than its standard counterpart at 4,371 mm (172 in). Of course, the bodywork and elongated wheelbase result in larger rear legroom, which is said to have increased by 125mm (4.9 in). Land Rover says this increase in size allows passengers to stretch out further when using the electronically adjustable rear seats that can recline 7 degrees back.

The bodywork and extended wheelbase also result in more legroom in the rear (125 mm or 4.9 inches), but the men and friends at Land Rover couldn't integrate the third row . That's not a deal-breaker in China, though, because stretch is more important than passenger capacity.

As a luxury-oriented crossover, the Evoque L for the 2022 model year furthers the deal with electronically-adjustable rear seats that can recline seven degrees backward. Produced in collaboration with state-owned automaker Chery at the Changshu factory, the five-seat Evoque L features R-Dynamic styling and 20-inch alloy wheels as standard.

It's also worth mentioning the InControl 2.0 infotainment, which includes two 10.2-inch touchscreens for the HVAC system, vehicle settings and vehicle systems. The steering wheel frames a spacious LCD instrument cluster, which is not uncommon these days as everyone has been obsessed with digital gauges since Audi launched the "virtual cockpit" in 2014. .

As for the price, Chery Jaguar Land Rover offers Evoque L for the precious sum of 430,000 yuan. That price of Chairman Mao translates to $66,370 at current exchange rates, which is easier to understand than the conventional wheelbase Evoque in R-Dynamic specs (375,000 yuan or $57,880).

Now available for pre-order in three exterior colors, the Evoque L is complemented with a smart strap that allows owners to open and start the vehicle without the key in their pocket. Added with full-LED headlights, daytime running lights and taillights, the crossover takes its style from the 2.0-liter turbocharged mild-hybrid four.

Rated at 249 hp or 246 hp of the US variety, the Evoque L is rounded off by AWD and a nine-speed automatic transmission. To be more precise, the ZF 9HP, known for its rough shifts, slow responses, and more software-related recalls than one can imagine.

As mentioned, the Chinese market is known to have many long-wheelbase models. That's because that's what the market demands, so automakers have monopolized the production of vehicles for one of the most important auto markets in the world.

Again, the Buick Envision has a Plus version in China, while the VW ID.6 was revealed first in the country. Mercedes has also introduced a long-wheelbase version of the E-Class, while the BMW 5 Series Li is stretched out for the People's Republic.
