The official handover ceremony of the electric sports cars took place at the Audi Driving Experience Center in Neuburg an der Donau, Germany.

Among them are members of the German national team Leroy Sané, Leon Goretzka, and Serge Gnabry as well as Bundesliga top scorer Robert Lewandowski.

Bayern Munich coach Julian Nagelsmann said: “The strength of the Audi RS e-tron GT3 is electrification. Electric vehicles are definitely the future of mobility.”

“It is amazing how smoothly the Audi RS e-tron GT3 glides through corners,” commented Bayern player Leroy Sané.

Henrik Wenders, Audi Brand Director, adds: “When imagination and passion come together, the results are amazing achievements. This also applies to our partner FC Bayern as well as to Audi. The Audi e-tron GT2 and Audi RS e-tron GT3 are the epitome of intelligent performance. These models have been shaping the future of the Audi brand. So it makes sense for these brand ambassadors to team up with FC Bayern brand ambassadors to show how both brands are committed to advancing together. "

Commenting on the new electric cars, Andreas Jung, Executive Board Member responsible for marketing of FC Bayern, said:

“Together with Audi, we want to inspire people to do more to fight climate change – through positive examples of successful transformations.

The electrification of our fleet with the Audi e-tron and the installation of charging points at our training ground and the Allianz Arena are great examples of this.

We are proud to have a shareholder like Audi - a company that perfectly combines sportiness and innovation with sustainability. "

FC Bayern Munich has a sponsorship contract with Audi estimated at around 50 million euros. Part of the deal is that each player will receive an Audi at the beginning of each season.

But one of the terms of this sponsorship deal is that Bayern Munich players must attend training sessions and official club activities in their Audis. Any player who arrives to practice in a non-Audi (or Volkswagen-owned) vehicle risks a fine of 50,000 euros.

Electrification at Audi

The charging infrastructure for electric cars is constantly expanding. With the e-tron Charging Service (eCS), Audi provides access to more than 220,000 charging points in 26 countries across Europe. Furthermore, Audi is continuously expanding its range of electric models.

By 2021, more than half of the new models introduced will be electric for the first time. This started with the world premiere of the Audi e-tron GT in February. Audi Q4 e-tron and Audi Q4 Sportback e-tron will be launched in the middle of this year. With these models, Audi will enable its customers to enter the electric world of Audi for the first time in the compact car segment.

In addition, Audi is strengthening its range in the PHEV (Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle) segment: for every second series of combustion engines there will be a plug-in hybrid model this year. By 2025, Audi intends to offer more than 20 all-electric models and significantly accelerate the expansion of its PHEV range. The company predicts that by then, all-electric and hybrid cars will account for about a third of total global distribution.
