McLaren Special Operations (MSO) has announced Speedtail 'Albert', a commission set exclusively by McLaren North American retailer, McLaren Beverly Hills.

The 'Albert' is one of the last cars in the production of 106 Speedtail cars and is an homage to the first Speedtail attribute test car from 2018. Mention the names of McLaren test mules The 1992 F1, named after the Albert Drive facility in F1 designed and built in Woking, England, the MVY02 Speedtail prototype car was originally named 'Albert' as a tribute to its three-seat predecessor.

The 'Albert' prototype car was developed to validate the concept of the Speedtail's center-seat driving position, testing the driver's ergonomics and visibility as well as the rear view camera positions. . Originally built with front panels from the 720S, the 'Albert' prototype was the first Speedtail to be driven on public roads.

The exterior 'camouflage' design is achieved by a simple two-metre-long vinyl body wrap with printed design lines for optimal airflow across the vehicle. The Speedtail 'Albert' carries this legacy, showcasing one of the most intricate paint themes ever completed by MSO.

The colors chosen for 'Albert' homage are Magnesium Silver - the color in which the F1 road car made its debut at the 1992 Monaco Grand Prix - and Ueno Gray, the color of the F1 GTR that won the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1995. The full design treatment is based on a 2018 vinyl 'camouflage' wrap.

"As one of the last Speedtails built at the McLaren Production Center, it was very important to us at McLaren Beverly Hills that 'Albert' honored the brand's rich heritage, especially to honoring the iconic McLaren F1. We worked with MSO through every stage, including concept, to create a truly bespoke and beautifully detailed car that celebrates the excellence of the car. Innovation and design excellence are behind the fastest McLaren road car to date.We were fortunate to have been able to purchase 'Albert' for one of our top customers and were absolutely delighted. happy with the finished result."
Parris Mullins, McLaren Beverly Hills

The new 'Albert' was built at the McLaren Production Center (MPC) with a 1K glossy carbon fiber body. Due to the incredibly complex and detailed nature of paint designs, the MSO team first completed test panels to understand the feasibility of the process and worked together with the visualization team to refine the rendering. In total, 'Albert' will require 12 weeks post-construction modifications at MSO's premises to complete; This includes two weeks of masking, six weeks of painting and the time remaining to dry and reassemble the vehicle after spraying.

Referring to the large-scale printing of the renderings, the light covering was completed by two professional painting technicians. This must be accomplished on the built vehicle, with wheels fitted, to ensure correct dashboard alignment of the design as it rolls around the vehicle. In total, covering the cover required nearly two kilometers of duct tape to complete the original design layout.

The six-week painting process required the car to be disassembled to ensure precision and flawless finish. The paint-blending effect resides in the exterior body panels of the door trim with the front painted in Ueno Gray and the rear in Magnesium Silver. After the first paint, all body panels were treated and refitted to ensure perfect alignment and only after the final coat was applied.

"The name 'Albert' has a special resonance with MSO, as we are the custodians of the McLaren F1 and are based at the Albert Drive facility that McLaren Cars rented in the 1990s. The Speedtail experience is a one-of-a-kind experience. exciting journey for our customers, from visualizing their imaginations to realizing these inspirations and sharing their joy at announcing the finished product. this project and we are delighted to have completed it at a high level." Ansar Ali, Managing Director, McLaren Special Operations

Based on the teardrop shape, the most aerodynamically efficient shape found in nature, the Speedtail is a transformation of the streamlined hypercar, the three-seat Hyper-GT becoming the third car. three in McLaren's Ultimate Series lineup. With a 1,070hp hybrid powertrain, the Speedtail hits 112m/s when traveling at a top speed of 250mph/402kph, making it the fastest McLaren road car to date.
