2022 Kia Niro PHEV - the entry-level version received a 10.25-inch touchscreen as standard | Mini Auto

Starting price is about  $30,765 USD

"For the new model year, the 10.25-inch touchscreen becomes standard. Navigation, UVO link and Sirius XM satellite radio along with the premium Harmon/Kardon sound system are bundled into the touchscreen."

The compact five-seater with hatchback versatility offers the spaciousness of a compact crossover with the efficiency of the Toyota Prius. The base LX is EPA rated at 53 mpg city, 48 highway, 50 combined. The 2022 Niro Hybrid (HEV) uses a 1.6-liter in-line 4-cylinder engine combined with a 1.6 kWh battery and a 43-horsepower electric motor for a combined output of 139 hp. Power is transmitted only through a 6-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission to the front wheels. An 8.0-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto is standard. Unfortunately, the LX still lacks the standard safety features found on the Toyota Corolla Hybrid as well as rivals like the 2021 Honda Insight and the 2021 Hyundai Ioniq.

On the outside, the Niro EV now gets new Kia badges on the front grille, rear doors, steering wheel hubs and wheel hub covers. The biggest change is probably the 10.25-inch touchscreen that is now standard.

The specs remain the same with a 64 kWh battery, 239 miles (385 km) EPA range, and a 150 kW electric motor.
As for the Niro PHEV, nothing's changed other than Kia adopting a new badging on every 2022 model year. Price stays steady at $30,765 to start and, for some reason, the most luxurious EX Premium trim. now $60 cheaper at $37,665. If buyers qualify, they can claim $4,543 from the federal EV tax credit for the Niro PHEV.

Kia's all-electric version of the Niro, the Niro EV, sees a small price increase. It starts at $41,165, which is $900 more than last year. That will get you EX trim, but EX Premium trim is still a $45,825 option, too. Its price is unchanged from last year. The EV will still have an estimated 239-mile range according to the EPA and produce 201 horsepower, thanks to a 64 kilowatt-hour battery. However, buyers will find a few extras with the 2022 model. A 10.25-inch touchscreen is now standard, as is a premium Harman Kardon audio system.
