Lynk & Co 09 - The flagship SUV is the technical cousin of the Volvo XC90 | Car in China

Starting price: $38,690 USD

Lynk & Co 09, the brand's new flagship SUV, celebrated its world premiere on June 19, 2021 and is the next step for the brand. The flagship SUV is the technical cousin of the second-generation Volvo XC90 that will be discontinued next year.

Within the framework of the current Shanghai Auto Show, Lynk & Co has officially introduced to consumers information about its new Lynk & Co 09 mid-size and large SUV. The new car will be put into production at the Meishan factory in the near future. And is expected to offer a four-wheel drive hybrid system.

Combining previous actual vehicle images and preview images, the new vehicle adopts the Lynk & Co family design style and subtly adjusts to position different vehicle models. The new car uses a large straight waterfall front grille and is connected with the logo of the headlights that split into a T shape, and the three-level air intake, making the new car look very recognizable. .

Lynk & Co just unveiled its latest flagship SUV, the 2021 Lynk & Co 09. It's the Volvo XC90 dressed up in a more glamorous outfit.

Based on the Volvo SPA (Scalable Product Architecture) platform, Lynk & Co 09 has a unique identity. It measures 5,042 mm in length, 1,977 mm in width and 1,780 mm in height.

The wheelbase is not announced at the time of writing, but for reference, the XC90 has a wheelbase of 2,984 mm.

Inside, it's decked out with the latest gadgets, some not even found in a Volvo. The controls on the steering wheel, infotainment screen and climate control system are now touch-sensitive because it's more "premium" that way.

The 12-inch touchscreen infotainment system and the 6-inch LCD climate control panel are controlled by two 1.4-inch display dials that make the center stack look nice.

Lynk & Co used Volvo's Start/Stop knob and drive selector switch but we're not sure if it has the same diamond-cut finish.

Other bells and whistles in the Lynk & Co 09 include a 12.3-inch LCD instrument cluster, 12.8-inch color display screen, augmented reality navigation, Monaco Nappa leather seats, OTA update support, in-car aroma and L2 ADAS.

An interesting fact about the SPA platform is that speaker placement and integration has been engineered into the frame itself with the help of Bowers & Wilkins.

While the Lynk & Co 09 will benefit from this development, we don't see that a 14-speaker BOSE sound system can match the sound quality of an established B&W 19-speaker system.

Unlike the 7-seater XC90 (2 + 3 + 2), the Lynk & Co is a 6-seater SUV with a 2 + 2 + 2 configuration. The middle row of 2 captain seats is more popular in China.

Powertrain options for the Lynk & Co 09 have yet to be announced but it will most likely be offered with the same 2.0-liter turbocharger + eight-speed automatic as other Lynk & Co models. Volvo's PHEV T8 system (407 PS / 640 Nm) can also find its way here.

Chinese media is speculating that the Lynk & Co 09 will have an estimated starting price of 250,000 yuan ( $38,690 ). The market launch is expected to take place in the coming months.
