2024 GMC Hummer EV SUV - The electric Hummer SUV will be packed with tons of features | Cars Blog

Starting price is about $79,995 USD

The 2024 GMC Hummer EV SUV is an all-electric reinterpretation of one of the most iconic, bad-terrain machines of the last century. Although the Hummer brand now exists under the umbrella of GMC, its unmistakable design and superior off-road capabilities are still faithfully represented as an EV. In fact, the latter is said to be even more impressive thanks to the SUV's advanced technology, incredible power output, and innovative features, including a four-wheel drive system, which enables high-speed driving mode. crab many times. The most exciting aspect of the reinvented Hummer is the Ultium battery technology, which provides quick charge times, and the large battery pack that provides an estimated range of more than 300 miles. Inside the cabin, it's visually identical to its pickup counterpart, with a combination of high-tech content and removable roof panels creating an outdoor experience.

A large four-door, five-passenger electric SUV cousin to the 2022 GMC Hummer EV pickup truck. The 2024 GMC Hummer EV SUV will start production with the limited Edition 1 in Moonshot Green Matte, but additional colors will be available on lower trims. The SUV's cool features include a removable roof, a lighted crystal "Hummer" bar on the front, the lunar Sea of Tranquility etched into the speaker grilles and on the floor, and large digital displays. An Extreme Off-Road package provides 18-inch wheels and available 37-inch tires, underbody armor, rock sliders, a front eLocker, and virtual rear lockers to augment the standard four-wheel drive with rear torque vectoring.

The Hummer also has Super Cruise hands-free driving assist, an adaptive air suspension, four-wheel steering, and extras such as Extract and Crab Walk modes to get out of dicey situations on the trail. There is a ferocious launch control sequence known as Watts to Freedom—or WTF—and with three motors, the top-trim Hummers generate 830 horsepower and about 1,045 lb-ft of torque, enough to blast from 0 to 60 mph in 3.5 seconds. Over time, more affordable models will be added with one fewer motor, less power, lower range, and fewer features.

The pickup and SUV bring back the iconic Hummer name but on zero-emissions vehicles. They are part of a wave of new EVs from General Motors in all shapes and sizes, for all brands and markets, and these new vehicles are being developed in half the usual time. The Hummer uses GM's Ultium battery system for up to 300 miles of range on a single charge. The SUV is expected to outsell the pickup, and GM hopes the pair proves to consumers that legacy carmakers can make cool and capable electric vehicles.

The Hummer pickup is the first EV on GM's new dedicated platform that will support the Hummer SUV and Chevrolet Silverado electric pickup trucks, as well as large SUVs. GM's Ultium batteries are packaged into modules and provide a range of 250 to 300 miles per charge, depending on the trim level, which also dictates whether the model has two or three electric motors. Horsepower ranges from 625 to 830. The base SUV comes with 400-volt fast charging; the rest of the lineup uses 800 volts. A bidirectional charger allows power to flow in or out, so it can power accessories, provide juice to your home during a blackout, or charge another electric vehicle.

Engine, Transmission, and Performance

Based on the Hummer EV pickup truck–and hinted at by the superscript in their model names–the SUV version will be powered by two or three electric motors. The EV2 and EV2X have the dual-motor setup that generates an estimated 625 horsepower and what GM is claiming to be 7400 pound-feet of torque. The EV3X and the Edition 1 have a trio of motors (one up front and two out back) with a claimed 830 ponies and 11,500 pound-feet. However, we've already explained why those incredible torque claims are misleading. We expect actual maximum torque ratings to range between 1000 and 1100 pound-feet. The most powerful Hummer EV SUV also has a claimed zero-to-60-mph time of approximately 3.5 seconds, which is seriously quick for a machine this big and heavy. Compared with the pickup truck, the SUV has a shorter wheelbase (126.7 inches versus 135.6), which should make it more maneuverable in parking situations and out on the trails. It'll also inherit our favorite off-road goodies from the truck version, including four-wheel steering with CrabWalk and an adjustable air suspension with Extract mode that can raise it 6 inches. GMC also pulls at our heartstrings with a full-size spare tire mounted on the rear gate. Plus, there's an optional Extreme Off Road package that brings special hardware that includes 18-inch wheels on 35-inch all-terrain tires, extra underbody protection, low-mounted cameras for improved visibility while maneuvering, enhanced axles with heavy-duty components, a locking front differential, and rear motors that can electronically mimic a locked diff.

Version 1 starts at $105,595. The rest of the lineup will launch in spring 2024 with prices ranging from $79,995 to $99,995.
