2022 Rivian R1T - all-electric pickup truck from new American startup brand Rivian | Cars Blog

Starting price is about $74.145

The R1T is part of the new Rivian brand's aim to deliver adventure-driven utility vehicles with powerful electric powertrains and ample range on a single charge. Like many electric vehicles, the Rivian R1T 2022 is stabilized by a skateboard platform, which places the battery under the passenger compartment to keep the center of gravity down. Ground clearance is 14.5 inches.

The first Rivian R1T electric pickup rolled off the assembly line Tuesday morning at the company's Normal, Illinois plant, marking a milestone of more than a decade for the automaker and its founder and founder. Managing Director, RJ Scaringe.

The company, founded in 2009 as Mainstream Motors before adopting the Rivian name two years later, has seen an explosive growth in people, sponsors and partners in recent years. Today, Scaringe tweeted the news and a photo of the first production truck painted in Rivian Blue.

Scaringe's announcement on Tuesday, which marks the official start of production of the R1T for customers, comes after at least two delays due to the COVID-19 pandemic and global chip shortages.

Three battery sizes will be offered: 105-, 135- and 180 kWh. Expected range starts at 230 miles for the smallest battery (later available), 314 miles for the mid-size battery, and over 400 miles for the largest battery.

The truck has four electric motors, one mounted on each wheel. Our Rivian tester with the mid-sized battery delivered a total of 835 hp and 908 lb-ft of torque. According to Rivian, the truck can sprint from 0-60 mph in 3.0 seconds, but we were only able to bring it down to 3.1 seconds in our testing, which makes it still a no-brainer. fastest truck we've ever tested.

In traditional EV style, the R1T doesn't use a transmission between the electric motors and the wheels. But it does have a trick height-adjustable air suspension that can adjust the truck's ground clearance from about 8.5 inches to 15 inches at most.

Our test car R1T was equipped with the Adventure package, which adds some comfort and premium features. Wheels are 21 inches with road tires (Pirelli Scorpion Verde All-Season 275/55 R21 116H). All told, the sticker price for this R1T totals $74,075 before counting on any qualifying tax credits.

The launch certainly offers some initial EV thrust that people love reacting to on video, but it's not as impressive as in some of the other performance EVs. But again, this is the 7,000-pound truck we're talking about, not a sports car. The R1T is electronically limited to 110 mph, so acceleration hits a sudden high right at 1/4 mile. We're not sure if that's calculated intentionally, but it works perfectly for normal speed stats.

The R1T is an all-new model from Rivian and will begin shipping to customers in late 2021. It starts with a Launch Edition that starts at $74,145, but a trim level Explore pricing More affordable is also offered. The trucks will be sold directly to consumers, though Rivian says it will also set up a network of service centers and stores much like Tesla. Going on sale after the R1T truck will be the R1S, a 7-seater SUV with similar specifications.

The future R1T is an all-electric pickup from new American start-up brand Rivian, and it promises a 300 km driving range and lightning-fast acceleration. At 215.6 inches long, the crew-only R1T splits the size difference between midsize pickups like the Ford Ranger and full-size trucks like the Ram 1500. The R1T is the first electric pickup truck to enter production in a thriving market, which will soon include the Ford F-150 Lightning and GMC Hummer EV SUT.
