2022 Volkswagen Lamando L Debuts In China is the result of the SAIC-VW joint venture | Car Blog

After seven years, the Volkswagen Lingdu has finally opened up the first replacement of his career.

Following the official launch of the China-only Ford Mondeo, Volkswagen followed suit by unveiling the Lamando L. Lamando L running on the latest MQB Evo platform shared with other Volkswagen Group vehicles such as the Golf Mk8, Cupra Formentor, Skoda Octavia Mk4, just a few names.

The Volkswagen Lamando L is the result of the SAIC-VW joint venture. It's a completely different model from the standard Lamando, which has a more vertical and conventional three-box shape.

Lamando L and Jetta have the same relationship as Passat and Arteon. At 4,784 mm (188 inches), 1,831 mm (72 in) wide and 1,469 mm (57.8 in) tall, the car is essentially significantly larger than the Lamando three-box sedan and has a wider wheelbase that extends at 2,731 mm (107.5 in). Despite its larger size, it is still smaller than Arteon in every size.

While the regular sedan is based on the MQB platform, the cooler cousin with frameless windows sits on the updated MQB Evo architecture introduced by VW Group in 2019 for the Golf, Octavia, A3, Leon and China's latest Talagon large SUV. Although in Europe, the smaller compact cars sold by the German group are stuck with a twisted beam rear suspension, the Lamando L still has a standard multi-link setup.

The sleek convertible with a somewhat demonic face on wheels measures up to 18 inches and is the latest model to use LED sticks in both the front and rear. The VW logo seems to be illuminated in white at the front and red at the back, where the taillights can remind you of the Arteon, the Peugeot 508 rival. Overall, we dare say it's one of the most beautiful designs we've seen in years from the vw core brand.

Stepping inside the cabin, the dashboard design gives a strong feel to the Golf Mk8, although there are some changes to the central ventilation hole and very few buttons. The Lamando L is uniquely equipped with Beats sound system, head-up display, sunroof, DSG gear shifter, power-adjustable front seats and adaptive cruise control. At the back, there is a dual vent, a central armrest with two cup trays and a pair of USB ports.

In terms of power, the new car will launch the 1.4T (280TSI) version for consumers to choose from, with a maximum power of 150 hp and a maximum torque of 250 Nm. The powertrain will continue to be equipped with the familiar 7-speed dry dual-clutch gearbox. and use a combination of MacPherson front + rear multi-link suspension. It is worth mentioning that the new car is equipped with a small electronic gear lever, which is highly synchronized with the new Generation Volkswagen Golf.

Sales of the new Volkswagen Lamando L will begin selling this year in China, with prices to be announced closer to the timing of its retail launch. Although some SAIC-VW vehicles have arrived in the Philippines, it remains unclear whether these vehicles will be exported outside of China.
