Acura's upcoming electric SUV could be called ADX

The Acura version of Honda's GM-made electric SUV could carry the ADX badge. According to Autoblog, a recent trademark application to the United States Patent and Trademark Office of Honda, Acura's parent company, on December 22, 2021, was approved a few days later.

It's unlikely that Acura's new electric crossover will be named ADX, but it will certainly fit in with the company's existing MDX and RDX nameplates.

Early signs point to Acura’s electric SUV bearing a resemblance to the Honda Prologue , which is due to hit Canadian dealerships in 2024. Both EVs will be based on a global EV platform powered by GM’s batteries called  Ultium;  it’s the same technology used in the Cadillac Lyriq. Despite the shared battery pack and tech features, Acura will likely retain its unique exterior and interior décor that reflects the luxury brand’s current design.

That said, it’s unclear if Acura will even use the ADX nameplate specifically for its fully electric vehicle, as Autoblog cites that the filing does not mention an electric powertrain. The brand currently has two crossover models in its fleet of cars, and it’s no secret that the automaker could stand to boost its non-electric crossover offerings.

Honda recently announced it would introduce hybrid-electric systems to its current top-selling models and focus efforts on offering battery-electric vehicles for Honda/Acura owners.
