Cadillac launches electric car, dreams of competing with Rolls-Royce and Bentley

The Cadillac Celestiq became the brand's most expensive car. The company will also set up a customization division with the ambition to compete with Rolls-Royce and Bentley.

After launching the Cadillac Lyriq electric SUV, the American automaker will continue to expand its lineup with the large Celestiq sedan. Notably, this model will compete with "unfamiliar" rivals such as Bentley and Rolls-Royce.

According to company reports, Cadillac will open a customization department to personalize the Celestiq to the exact requirements of the customer, on par with Bentley Mulliner or Rolls-Royce Bespoke services.

Specific information has not yet been revealed, but it is likely that GM will offer unlimited paint, upholstery and decoration options like the British super luxury car manufacturers.

This will make the Celestiq the company's most premium customizable model, while creating a need for specialized production lines and top-notch craftsmanship. The level of customization costs around $200,000, making the Celestiq the most expensive car in Cadillac history.

With styling inspired by Concept Escala, Cadillac Celestiq possesses an elegant and luxurious appearance. The interior will be the highlight of the Celestiq, with a large dual screen similar to the Mercedes-Benz EQS and a panoramic sunroof.

With a 2+2 configuration, the Cadillac Celestiq has a spacious interior. In addition, the car is also equipped with Ultra Cruise, an intelligent driver assistance system.

GM CEO Mary Barra describes the Celestiq as "a halo in every way," but before it hit the market, formidable competitors lined up like the BMW i7 or Mercedes-Benz. EQS, not to mention the products of car start-ups like Lucid Air.

The Cadillac Celestiq is slated to debut this year, but supply chain problems GM is facing could drag on the model's launch date.
